Romanian F-16s Shot Down Two Jet-Powered Attack Drones Over Its Black Sea Waters, After a Week of Drone Strikes on Ships Off Its Coast

Two Romanian F-16s shot down two drones over Romania's territorial waters in the Black Sea on Saturday evening, both within minutes, 20 to 25 kilometres off Sulina at the mouth of the Danube. The defence ministry calls them 'jet-powered attack drones from the Geran family,' the name Russia uses for its Shahed-type drones, but has not formally said where they came from. It follows a week in which drones hit two chemical tankers near Sulina and at least five other ships off Romania and Bulgaria, with 23 sailors dead or missing.

Trump Waived the Russia Sanctions Congress Passed 86-11, Two Days Before They Took Effect. Republicans Including Cruz, Tillis and Haley Say It Was a Mistake.

President Trump signed an executive order on Friday waiving nearly every Russia sanction and tariff in the Graham Act, the law named for the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, two days before they were due to take effect. The White House says enforcing them now 'would impede ongoing U.S. efforts,' and Trump called it 'a very good decision.' The move clears the way for a Russian diesel deal aimed at lowering fuel prices. Sens. Ted Cruz and Thom Tillis, Nikki Haley and Democrats criticised it, and Ukraine's president said it 'definitely helps only the Russians.'

Pressed on Guilfoyle's Ouster, JD Vance Says 'D.C. Is a Corrupt Town' but He Has Seen No Evidence Trump Takes Part. A Trump Voter Told Him He's Switching Over Gas Prices.

At a CBS News town hall in Flat Rock, Michigan, aired Saturday, Vice President JD Vance was asked about polling on corruption and the ouster of Kimberly Guilfoyle as ambassador to Greece. 'Yes, D.C. is a corrupt town,' he said, but he had 'not seen a single shred of evidence' that Trump takes part in it, and selling access to the White House would be 'disgusting and despicable.' He blamed Biden-era refinery closures and the Iran war for high gas prices, apologised for 'imperfect' rhetoric on immigration, and said there is 'of course' a chance he won't run in 2028.

UPDATED SUNDAY. Preliminary findings by the Interior Ministry's forensic evidence unit point to an 'internal malfunction' at the depot, not an external strike, the PMF says. A final report is still to come.
