The Fujifilm Instax Square 2 is a new entry-level instant camera that costs $119.95 and ships in late October 2026. It adds a warm/cool Mood Filter switch and a new Landscape mode, and launches alongside a new Soft Haze square-format film.
It replaces the Instax Square SQ1 from 2020 as the simplest way into Fujifilm's square print format. For Fujifilm's other big instant launch this year, see our look at the Instax mini Evo Cinema.

What does the Mood Filter do?
Next to the lens is a switch that slides a physical filter in front of the glass. Warm gives softer, golden tones. Cool gives cleaner, crisper color. Leave it off for the classic Instax look.
Because it's an actual filter rather than a digital effect, the change is baked into the print. That makes it the camera's main creative control, since exposure is fully automatic.
How do you use the Instax Square 2?
Operation is deliberately simple:
- Turn the lens barrel to switch the camera on.
- Keep turning to choose Close-up (for selfies and nearby subjects), Standard, or the new Landscape mode for groups and distant scenes.
- Frame with the small optical viewfinder, or use the selfie mirror beside the lens.
- Press the shutter. The camera sets shutter speed and flash for you.
What is Soft Haze film, and how much is it?
Instax Square Soft Haze uses a newly developed emulsion for lower contrast, gentler highlights and warmer color. Fujifilm aims it at portraits, skin tones, sunlit rooms and travel landscapes. PetaPixel reports a U.S. price of $18.99 for 10 shots, and noted that Canada's $16.99 price is unusually lower than the U.S. figure.
Soft Haze works in any camera that takes Instax Square film, not just the new model.
Is the Instax Square 2 worth it?
If you want bigger prints than Instax Mini without paying for a hybrid digital model, the Square 2 is the cheapest current way in. The trade-off is control: there's no manual exposure, no app, and the filters are the only real creative lever.
People who already own an SQ1 get the most new value from the Soft Haze film, which they can use in their existing camera.
