Ford is recalling 223,472 F-150 pickups from the 2023 to 2027 model years because the fuel tank may not be properly secured and can leak fuel or come loose while driving. Dealers will inspect the fuel tank straps and replace them as needed, for free.
Ford mailed owner letters on September 21, and filed a smaller second F-150 recall on October 6 for front seats that may not be bolted down properly.

What is wrong with the F-150 fuel tank?
Ford's recall report says the "front fuel tank strap T-slots were not properly inserted into the vehicle's frame rail" during assembly, Fox Business reported.
NHTSA's summary spells out the consequences:
- A fuel leak can cause an engine stall or increase the risk of a fire.
- A detached tank "can create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash."
Ford estimates about 1% of the trucks in the recall actually have the defect. Because you can't tell from the outside, all of them are being called in.
What should F-150 owners do?
- Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (searchable since September 14, 2026).
- Book an inspection at a Ford or Lincoln dealer. It's free.
- Watch for warning signs before the appointment: a fuel smell, drips under the truck, or clunks from underneath.

Are other pickups being recalled?
Yes. Ram has filed a string of recalls on its rival half-ton truck this year, from rearview camera software to seat belt anchors. We've collected them in every 2026 Ram 1500 recall, explained.
Ford also recalled the Bronco earlier this year over an engine fire risk.
