Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 30,064 S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach and AMG S 63 sedans from the 2022 to 2025 model years because the front brake hoses can rupture and leak brake fluid. That can make stopping distances longer and raise the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the front brake hoses for free, and owner letters are expected around November 27, 2026.

Which Mercedes models are included?

According to Mercedes-Benz USA's filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

Model Model years
S 500 4MATIC 2022–2025
S 580 4MATIC 2022–2025
Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC 2022–2025
Mercedes-Maybach S 680 4MATIC 2022–2025
S 580 e 4MATIC (plug-in hybrid) 2023–2025
Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance 2024–2025

These are some of the most expensive sedans Mercedes sells. Not every car of these models is included, so check your VIN.

What is wrong with the brakes?

NHTSA's summary says "the front brake hoses may rupture and leak brake fluid." A leak "can extend the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash."

Warning signs to watch for:

  • A soft or sinking brake pedal
  • Longer stopping distances
  • A brake fluid warning light or message
  • Fluid around the front wheels

Why is Mercedes expanding an older recall?

This campaign expands a 2025 brake hose recall, NHTSA number 25V116. FOX reported that Mercedes based the expansion on tracking data for vehicles both inside and outside the original recall, plus information from markets outside the U.S.

Mercedes reported three U.S. instances, all in 2026, and no crashes or injuries involving the recalled cars.

What should owners do?

  1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. VINs became searchable on October 9, 2026.
  2. Call your Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule the hose replacement.
  3. If you notice a leak or a change in brake feel, stop driving and have the car towed.
