Google's Universal Cart is now live in the US. It's a single shopping cart that works across Google Search, the Gemini app and Chrome, letting you save products from different stores in one place and get alerts when prices drop or items come back in stock.
Google launched it on October 15, 2026, after first previewing it at Google I/O in May. 9to5Google reports the cart also shows up on the Search homepage and in Chrome.
What does Universal Cart do?
According to TechCrunch and 9to5Google:
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| One cart, many stores | Save items from multiple retailers in one place |
| Follows you | Works across Search, Gemini, Chrome and the Search homepage |
| Price-drop alerts | Notifies you when a saved item gets cheaper |
| Restock alerts | Notifies you when an out-of-stock item returns |
| Promo codes | Surfaces relevant codes |
| Card perks | Considers your credit card benefits when you pay |
How do you use Universal Cart?
- Sign in to your Google account in the US.
- Search for a product in Google Search, AI Mode or the Gemini app.
- Save it to your cart when it appears in shopping results.
- Keep browsing. Add items from other stores the same way.
- Open your cart from Search, Gemini or Chrome to compare, watch prices and check out.
Can it buy things for you?
Checkout runs on Google's Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard Google introduced this year so AI agents and retailers can work together, including at checkout. Google hasn't described fully hands-off buying, so expect to confirm purchases yourself.
Is it available where I live?
Only in the United States for now. Google hasn't announced other countries.
How does it fit into Google's AI shopping push?
Universal Cart joins conversational product search in AI Mode and "Let Google Call," which uses an AI agent to phone nearby stores and check stock. Amazon and OpenAI are building similar agent-style shopping tools, and OpenAI's ChatGPT just gained deeper control inside Chrome. See what ChatGPT can now do in Chrome.
Should you use it?
If you shop across several stores and like waiting for a deal, the price-drop alerts alone make it worth trying. As with any shopping tool from an advertising company, remember that what you save helps Google understand what you want to buy.
