A number of outlets are running headlines promising you can watch it free tonight. That is worth being precise about, because it is only true in a narrow sense.
Friday Night Baseball is not free in 2026. It was free in its first season back in 2022, which is where the impression comes from. Today it requires an Apple TV subscription at $12.99 per month in the US.
There are two legitimate ways to watch without paying tonight:
- The seven-day free trial, if you are a new Apple TV subscriber. This works, and it is what most of those articles are describing. Set a reminder to cancel.
- Three months of Apple TV included with a newly purchased and activated iPhone, iPad, Apple TV or Mac, for eligible customers.

The pitching matchup
The Yankees hand the ball to right-hander Cam Schlittler. The Phillies counter with left-hander Jesus Luzardo.
Luzardo is the more established name and the more familiar problem for a right-handed-heavy lineup; Schlittler is the younger arm with more to prove, and a road start in a hostile park against a division leader is a real test of where he is.
Why it matters beyond tonight
Interleague games in late July usually carry no stakes beyond the standings. This one is slightly different, because both of these teams are about to be active buyers.
