Jailer 2 has made a huge start. Rajinikanth's action sequel grossed about Rs 224 crore in India over its four-day opening weekend, according to trade estimates published by Pinkvilla, and Sacnilk counted Rs 319 crore worldwide after just three days.

The film opened on Thursday, October 15, 2026, and dipped on Friday before bouncing back over the weekend, an unusual pattern for a big South Indian release.

What is Jailer 2's day-wise collection?

Here is how the opening weekend broke down, using both trackers. Net figures exclude taxes; gross figures include them.

Day Date India net (Sacnilk) India gross (Pinkvilla)
Day 1 Thu, Oct 15 Rs 59.70 cr Rs 67.25 cr
Day 2 Fri, Oct 16 Rs 37.10 cr Rs 42.50 cr
Day 3 Sat, Oct 17 Rs 47.25 cr Rs 52.50 cr
Day 4 Sun, Oct 18 Not yet published Rs 61.75 cr
Total Rs 144.05 cr (3 days) Rs 224 cr (4 days)

One Mann's Movies reported a worldwide opening day of about Rs 127 crore and Rs 209 crore after two days.

Where is Jailer 2 earning the most?

Tamil Nadu, unsurprisingly. Pinkvilla's regional estimates for the four-day weekend:

Region Gross
Tamil Nadu Rs 79.75 cr
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Rs 43.00 cr
Kerala Rs 40.00 cr
Karnataka Rs 39.00 cr
Rest of India Rs 22.25 cr

In North America, distributor Shloka's release took about $3.25 million from 420 screens over the Friday-to-Sunday weekend, and about $5.3 million since opening, according to weekend estimates. That put it ninth in the US weekend chart.

Pinkvilla noted that Sunday's Tamil Nadu gross, around Rs 23 crore, was higher than opening day, which is rare for a star vehicle that usually peaks on day one. The Hindi dubbed version grew from about Rs 3 crore on its first day to more than Rs 15 crore over the weekend.

Did Jailer 2 beat Coolie?

It's effectively a tie. Pinkvilla ranks the India weekend as the third-biggest Kollywood opening of all time, at Rs 224 crore against Coolie's Rs 224.25 crore. One Mann's Movies reported that Coolie is still the only Rajinikanth film with a bigger worldwide opening.

For the 75-year-old star, it is another reminder that few actors anywhere open a film like he does.

What is Jailer 2 about?

Jailer 2 continues the story of "Tiger" Muthuvel Pandian, the retired jailer Rajinikanth played in the 2023 hit. Nelson Dilipkumar returns as writer-director, Anirudh Ravichander scores the film and Sun Pictures produces.

The first Jailer was one of the biggest Tamil films ever, so the sequel came with enormous expectations.

What happens next for Jailer 2?

The real test is the first full week. Big South Indian openers often drop sharply on Monday, and the Friday dip shows how much depends on weekend crowds. If it holds, the film could challenge the year's biggest Indian grossers, including Drishyam: The Conclusion, which passed Rs 500 crore worldwide in under two weeks.
