Apple is announcing new products next week. Marketing chief Greg Joswiak posted on October 19 that he "can't wait to pro and tell next week," and reports point to a redesigned MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen, plus M6 Macs and an OLED iPad mini.

MacRumors reports the reveal is expected Wednesday, October 28, at an in-person media "experience" in Los Angeles starting at 10 a.m. PT. It is not expected to be a classic keynote. Apple has confirmed none of the products.

What is Apple expected to announce?

Product What's rumored Source
MacBook Pro (redesigned) First touchscreen Mac laptop, tandem OLED, Dynamic Island, thinner and lighter Bloomberg
MacBook Pro 14-inch Standard M6 chip, same design Bloomberg, MacRumors
iMac M6 chip, new colors Bloomberg, Macworld
iPad mini OLED display, A20 Pro chip Bloomberg, 9to5Mac

All of this is reported, not confirmed.

Is the MacBook Pro really getting a touchscreen?

Multiple reports say yes. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, as summarized by 9to5Mac and Macworld:

  • Touchscreen with a tandem OLED panel, like the iPad Pro.
  • A Dynamic Island, slightly smaller than the iPhone's, with no Face ID.
  • A thinner, noticeably lighter body.
  • macOS 27 touch tweaks: menus that appear near your finger and bigger menu bar controls.
  • M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Apple is reportedly skipping M6 Pro/Max to accelerate M7.

The timing is symbolic: it lands close to the 20th anniversary of the first MacBook.

When will the new Macs go on sale?

Bloomberg reports a release as early as Friday, November 6, with Apple Stores reportedly planning an overnight reset on November 5. That would complete four straight weeks of Apple launches:

Date Launch
Oct 23 iPhone Duo
Oct 30 HomePod mini 2
Nov 6 (rumored) New MacBook Pro, iMac, iPad mini
Nov 13 HomeView, Apple TV 4K

Will there be a livestream?

Probably not in the usual form. MacRumors expects press releases and hands-on time for media, similar to the HomeView launch. Gurman earlier said there would be an online video presentation, so check Apple's website and YouTube channel that morning.

How much will the touchscreen MacBook Pro cost?

There's no reliable price yet. Macworld notes Apple already raised some prices in June and could again, with memory shortages pushing up costs across the industry.

Should you wait to buy a Mac?

Yes, if you can wait a week. Current models are already being discounted: MacRumors reports Amazon has taken $900 off a 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Max. Prices on outgoing models usually fall further once new ones arrive.
